Everyone loves monkeys, even invisible ones

August 24th, 2010 · in the news

A couple of weeks back Chrysler launched an ad campaign for their ‘Dodge tent event’.  Cars wizz about while Dexter star, Michael C. Hall, provides the narrative.

So why did this ad come under fire from the animal loving folk over at PETA?

That’s right.  Because  it featured a monkey dressed in an Elvis-esk jumpsuit detonating a confetti charge.

“This event could not be more amazing,” Hall says. “Oh wait, there’s a monkey. I stand corrected.”

To keep PETA off their back,  the clever peeps made the following change.  Classic!

“This event could not be more amazing,” Hall says. “Oh wait, there’s an invisible monkey. I stand corrected.”

Ever pondered walking across America?  Fancy a gentle stroll from New York to San Francisco all in the name of creativity?

Well, the lads that created WalkUSA did, and have produced a nice little film that combines stop motion with time lapse imagery.

Comprised of 2,770 individual still images, the end result is brilliant.

Meet the iFamily

July 19th, 2010 · uncollected thoughts

Sitting in Split airport after a sun soaked holiday in Croatia, and I have just witnessed an ever growing social phenomenon. The iFamily.

Meet Dad. He is a Steve Jobs wannabe, dressed in black long sleeve T, blue jeans and trainers. He is busy mashing away at his MacBook, listening to his latest iTunes purchase on his new iPhone 4. His kids, Huey, Dewey, and Louie are entertained by a collection of iPods and iPads. Mum on the other hand, has her nose buried in her book – an actual book not an iBook. No conversation has taken place between them.

Now without sounding like a hypocrite (after all, I have just typed this on my iPhone while waiting for my delayed flight), I think this observation highlights two things.

Firstly, technology is bringing about a social change in family dynamics.

Secondly, holidays away from technology no longer exist.
