So easy a kid can do it

So, Macworld reports that a 14-year-old has created a game that is giving Angry Birds a run for its money.  How is this possible?  By ditching the more complex objective C for Corona SDK (not the beer).

I took a taking a gander at the overview video on the Corona site.  Now i'm no coder, but to me it appears to be a pretty simple development platform.

So if you want to create the next bog app, for both Android and iOS, then perhaps give it a look

Childs play as they say

Everyone loves monkeys, even invisible ones

A couple of weeks back Chrysler launched an ad campaign for their 'Dodge tent event'.  Cars wizz about while Dexter star, Michael C. Hall, provides the narrative. So why did this ad come under fire from the animal loving folk over at PETA?

That's right.  Because  it featured a monkey dressed in an Elvis-esk jumpsuit detonating a confetti charge.

"This event could not be more amazing," Hall says. "Oh wait, there's a monkey. I stand corrected."

To keep PETA off their back,  the clever peeps made the following change.  Classic!

"This event could not be more amazing," Hall says. "Oh wait, there's an invisible monkey. I stand corrected."

Trash to cash

Watching the news last night and saw a report on a new recycling scheme being trialled by Windsor and Maidenhead Council. RecycleBank aims to reward participants for recycling.  The more you recycle, the more rewards points you earn, which can then be redeemed at local retailers. Originally conceived in the USA, this idea is a good way to encourage us all to do our part.  I can't help but wonder though.  Are we actually going to end up consuming more, therefore producing more waste,  through point redemption?

And jury is still out

So, after all the propaganda, the UK election has resulted in nothing but over hyped nothingness. Come Monday there should be some results, but why wait that long? I feel the Tories quest to form a "stable government" will see them conced electrol reform to the lib dems - there is irony somewhere in here. They need the lib dems to make govt. as first past the post failed. The price? First past the post.

Can I be 1 in 100,00 please?

So, two days since Google announced that they are releasing 100,000 preview invitations for Google Wave.  Now I am super, super keen to get my hands on one of these invites ever since watching the preview from Google I/O 2009. It seems I'm not the only one keen to get my hot little hands on this  cool, real-time collaboration tool.  Some entrepreneurial chap in the States decided to offer his invite up on eBay.   Two issues.  He didn't actually have an invite, and eBay reckoned he was violating terms of service.  A shame really as one Swedish guy was willing to part with $27,000.    The  current highest bid on other eBay auctions is $102.50 - a bargain in comparison. Not sure what Google Wave is?  Then check out the Google I/O 2009 preview below.  For those lucky enough to get an invite.  Share the love.

It begins: The empty promises

Gordon Brown is clearly out to save is own skin according to today's evening standard. Wonder what the victims in the corresponding headline think of his pledge to ensure budgets for police are clearly identified (fourth bullet point)?
Perhaps less policies excusing MPs behaviour and more policies focusing on protecting the interests of the people? Perhaps the proposed policy of 'cleaning up politics by giving voters the power to sack MPs found guilty of gross financial misconduct', needs to extend to dismissal for not ensuring adequate investment in core infrastructure such as public safety? A throwaway line bout investing in 'the lawful majority' will not solve crime problems that have engulfed the nation under three terms of Labour rule.  How would a fourth be that much different? Politicians need to be accountable for the fact that they are in Parliament to protect the best interests of the people, not themselves.
